May Favourites || 2015

Friday, 29 May 2015

Don't worry, friends, I haven't lost my mind. There is a reason why my favourites are being posted on Fandom Friday. It's a good reason, I promise. All posts next week are going to be fandom related in preparation for a certain show coming back to US screens. I honestly cannot wait for that, so as a result, I'm dedicating a whole week to it. Why? Because I caaaaaaaaaan. That's why my May favourites are coming to you today. That's a good reason, right? Anyway, without further adieu, let's get to the favourites.

Things That Have Made Me Happy This Week

Wednesday, 27 May 2015

Do you ever have those days when nothing goes right? There are days when you drop everything that you lift. There are days when I walk into things that I normally wouldn't and every thing just gets to me so that my chest feels tight and I can't even think. Granted, I can't think most days but on these types of days, it's worse. Those days are overwhelming and emotionally exhausting. They really take a toll on my happiness where I really struggle to find a little joy. In the past week, work has really been sucking the life out of my soul to a point where I was getting angry, frustrated and generally unhappy. Listed below are the things that made me laugh or smile in the past week.

Formal Do-Over || Being My Own Fairy Godmother

Monday, 25 May 2015

Let's turn back the clock eight years (*cringe*) and go back to my Formal. All of the Prom tutorials and Prom Get Ready With Me videos floating around these days have made me think back to my Formal in my final year of high school. I made me think of what I could have done for it. Not done differently. Actually done for it. I took a lot of shortcuts for my Formal as I didn't want my parents spending a lot of money. They forked out enough for my dress. We found my dress so close to the date that needed altered toots-sweet which drove the price up. I didn't do the whole limo arrival or beauty routine. I was more concerned about the dress and shoes.

My MAC Collection [so far]

Friday, 22 May 2015

There is that inevitable moment when you will take that braver than brave step, go up to that counter and pick out that little piece of heaven, go to the till and you will be the proud owner of your very first MAC product. If you're anything like me, then walking up to a makeup counter is akin to walking into a party you weren't invited to. I can't explain it but I've always been nervous at them. I almost feel like people are looking at me and thinking, "What is she doing here?". My little Mind Bully, everyone. But I have started my own little MAC collection and it's all thanks to my lovely Fangirl alter ego

TUTORIAL || Captain Kathryn Janeway [Star Trek Voyager]

Wednesday, 20 May 2015

Happy birthday, Kathryn Janeway! Well, happy future birthday. May 20th will be the future birth date of Captain Kathryn Janeway of the Federation Starship Voyager. The captain from Star Trek: Voyager. This is the reason why Fandom Friday is on a Wednesday this week. I couldn't pass up the chance to post a makeup tutorial for Captain Janeway on her birthday. I couldn't do it. I couldn't justify posting a regular post on May 20th when my head was screaming, "Janeway. Janeway. Janeway. Do a Janeway post! It's her birthday!". My head won. It threw up lizard when the other side had Spock.

My Favourite Makeup Brush of the Moment

Monday, 18 May 2015

When I went to Barcelona, I shopped and shopped and my friend enabled me to gain quite a few bargains while I was doing my best Wilma and Betty impression. You're awesome if you know where that comes from. One stop that Emma took me to Mercadona. Mercadona is fundamentally a supermarket akin to Morrisons or Asda and it has a beauty department selling some European brands and some select products from known brands e.g. Rimmel and Maybelline.

Born With Teeth || Kate Mulgrew

Sunday, 17 May 2015

Back in 2013, the first whisperings of Kate Mulgrew writing a memoir started doing the rounds. For years, I have wanted Kate to write an autobiography. I've been a fan of hers since I was eleven years old and I've watched countless convention panels, interviews and read interviews featuring her and the woman is an absolute riot! The way that she conveys a story is captivating and she is incredibly articulate and has an extremely sharp wit and such an energy that draws you in. So, you can imagine my excitement when I knew that she was putting pen to paper and writing her life story.

I wanted my hands on this book from the publication date but since I'm in the UK and it won't be available here until July time, I knew that I had to wait. I initially had it pre-ordered on Amazon UK but I didn't want to wait until July. I cancelled that order and placed one with Amazon US. In less than a week, the book was in my hands and I began reading immediately.

BOOK || Star Trek: Destiny Trilogy

Friday, 15 May 2015

We've all gathered on this blog that I'm a bit of a nerd/geek/Trekker. I love Star Trek and recently I've been on a real kick for The Next Generation series. I've been watching the series again and the movies and I've completely fallen in love with it. I blame sporadic episode watching (thank you scheduling gods and general lack of remote control seniority in my house) for my previous lack of sincere interest in TNG. I've binge-watched seasons one through three and I've completely fallen for the series. It maaaaay give Voyager a run for it's money now. Ssssh, don't tell Janeway. Since I'm fully read up on the post-return-to-Earth Voyager books, I decided to start into some of the TNG ones. But where to start since there are about 137 of those suckers!

The Concealer That I've Stocked Up On

Wednesday, 13 May 2015

I need a good concealer. That's a fact because I'm not the most clever of people and I stay up way too late and I don't get enough sleep even when I'm working at 6am. Plus, my skin verges on translucent at the best of times and as a result, I need a little (read: a lot) of help to look human and simply put, alive. I have a number concealers that I chop and change between depending on my mood and needs but there is one concealer that I practically always use in my makeup routine, the Collection Lasting Perfection concealer

Makeup 101 Vocabulary

Monday, 11 May 2015

When that interest in makeup comes around and takes you by the hand, you'd think it would be fairly straight forward experience. A bit of foundation, a bit of the ole blush, a tube of mascara and a nice lipstick and you'll be grand. Boy, were my eyes opened as soon as I started becoming interested in makeup and beauty. I thought ahead and went to YouTube before stepping foot near a makeup stand or putting anything near my face. I watched countless videos that would recommend this product and that product but what really made my head boggle were all the terms that they used. What on earth was a 'crease'? And what's the difference between a waterline and a lower lash line? I didn't know that there were so many parts to my face! I had no idea that I had an 'inner corner'! Let me help you out with what I've learnt over the past year.

TUTORIAL || Queen Amidala [Star Wars: The Phantom Menace]

Friday, 8 May 2015

Long ago in a galaxy far, far away, Kazzie was never that fussed about makeup. There has been a great disturbance in the Force...

As a bonified Star Trek fan, I actually watched Star Wars first. I love both and I won't choose between the two. I'm not one of those people that say you have to be either/or about Star Trek or Star Wars. For First Contact Day, I did some makeup looks inspired by Star Trek. Monday was May the Fourth, Star Wars Day because it sounds like you're saying 'May the Force', especially if you have the Republic of Ireland accent, get it? Anyway, for this week's fandom Friday, I'm doing a makeup tutorial for Queen Amidala from Star Wars episode I, The Phantom Menace

April Favourites 2015

Wednesday, 6 May 2015

I hadn't planned on doing a post for April regarding  my favourites because I just couldn't think of any that I had. Then I went to my trusty notebook and to my surprise, I had a little list started and cue the 180* turn that I did and the birth of this post. Let's get to los favoritos!

Pasé Tres Días En Barcelona

Monday, 4 May 2015

Last Sunday I was up and awake earlier than I would normally have been for work and I was in my car headed for Belfast International airport with CoolFM keeping me company and more importantly, awake. I was on my way to Barcelona thanks to my parents who had bought me a city break trip for Christmas and my birthday (even though I had been extremely happy with my birthday makeup). Needless to say, I was very excited because I was going to be spending three days with one of my dearest friends, Emma. I haven't seen her for a year and I was beyond excited to spend some time with her. In this blog post I share what I did while in Barcelona and share a few of my favourite photos from my trip.

TUTORIAL || Nebula [Guardians of the Galaxy] Inspired Makeup Look

Friday, 1 May 2015

Since last week's tutorial was for Gamora from Guardians of the Galaxy, why not do a matching tutorial for her sister this week? Makes sense, right? I think so. Nebula tutorial, here we go! This tutorial is the perfect excuse for me to use blue eyeshadows as Nebula is blue and it is my favourite colour of all time. Plus on a very shallow note, Nebula is acted by Karen Gillan and I love her name. It's my name. Haha, win!
