TUTORIAL || Wanda Maximoff [Avengers: Age of Ultron] Inspired Smokey Eye

Friday, 29 January 2016

I don't know about you but I spent a good chunk of Avengers: Age of Ultron staring at Elizabeth Olsen's makeup as she played Wanda Maximoff aka the Scarlet Witch. I absolutely adored her entire look. So when I was invited to a birthday party last weekend - where there was a costume theme (leaning heavily towards Marvel) - I decided that a Wanda inspired look would be right up my street. I had a burgundy blazer so it was be a loosely inspired look nevertheless. But my focus would be on the makeup.

Previously, I did a makeup look that was heavily inspired by the comic book character. Lots of burgundy shades and a sharp wing. This look is a lot darker and smoked out with Makeup Geek's Bitten eyeshadow stealing the show. I love that eyeshadow and knew that I wanted it to feature in this look.

So here is my makeup look inspired by Wanda Maximoff.

TUTORIAL || Emilia Fox Inspired Smokey Gold Green Eye

Saturday, 23 January 2016

For this week's makeup tutorial, I'm going to be doing this look which was inspired by Emilia Fox's makeup from her photo-shoot in Essentials magazine (February 2016). She sported a very smokey eye that looked like it had flecks of gold and green. It looked gorgeous and something completely different for me. I knew I just had to try it out for myself.

5 Food Places in Belfast

Wednesday, 20 January 2016

B O O J U M
This will forever and always be my favourite place to eat in Belfast. Whenever I'm in Belfast meeting up with the BFF, we will automatically head in the direction of Boojum. We won't even discuss where we want to eat, we will just head there. Whenever I eat there it's a toss up between a burrito or a burrito bowl. I usually get the same thing either way; Mexican rice, peppers & onions, chorizo, tomato salsa and quacamole (or cheese). I used to always get the chicken but when they brought chorizo in, I instantly flipped. For newbies, be warned, you will end up with a food baby. It took me a couple of visits to build up a stomach stamina. Now, if I'm hungry I will opt for the burrito bowl. If I'm not so hungry, the burrito. Either way, I'll be stuffed but it just depends on how stuffed I wanna be.... That sounds wrong, haha.

My old uni haunt. For three years, this was a frequent lunch and dinner favourite for the BFF and me. Our ultimate favourite was Charlie's but it closed a year after we graduated which broke our hearts. But the Parlour has the best food. Great pub grub and the pizzas are to die for. We were last in there last April and I forgot how much I loved it. I love the atmosphere inside it and there are comfy chairs that you just sink into. Plus, it's the perfect place for a pub lunch (sneaky alcoholic drink included).

The newest addition to this list but so worth it. Five Guys recently opened in Belfast in December and I have never been more excited about a new eatery in my life. I first visited a Five Guys outlet when in Lubbock, Texas and absolutely loved it. I hadn't had their burgers in nearly two and a half years when I saw there was one in Manchester, which I visited last February. All bets were off when I saw it and made a bee-line for it. When it was announced that one was opening in Belfast, I was like a kid counting down for Christmas. I love it. I've already dragged my brother and I colleague to it and sung it's praises to everyone who would listen. The burgers are just how I like them - succulent with a soft bap. And their fries are amazing. I would recommend getting a little portion because they do add in a scoop of loose fries into the bag which basically works as a regular portion without paying for that size. Sneaky sneaky.

The Build-A-Bear of the food world. The BFF and I usually go in here when the queue for the Boojum next door is simply unbearable (which happens quite often). I love this place because you can basically build your own burger and have it just the way you like it. There are a number of options that you can choose from for the burger alone. You can have a steak burger, a chicken burger, a pulled pork burger, a veggir burger (plus many more) and you can choose from a variety of baps and aaaaaaall the toppings imaginable. Apple or gummy bears are even an option. Yes, gummy bears. You can choose a sauce (sweet chilli or BBQ for me) and the chips are heavenly. So good! They even have a Burger Challenge which I believe is called the Big Lady Challenge - a 32oz (2lbs) burger to be eaten in 30 minutes or less. I haven't attempted it yet.

A little gem for when the BFF and I don't want to go into the city centre. I just have to say first of all that it is situated in one of the most beautiful buildings in Belfast. I always look at the building when going past on the bus heading into the city centre. The menu is laid out really well so that you can make an easy choice and the food is on the healthy side compared to the others listed above. Boojum can be healthy is you make good choices, haha. Boden Park do amazing hot beverages. I love their coffees and their tray bakes are delicious too. I haven't been in here as often as the others but I want to remedy this asap.

First Impressions || The Body Shop Fresh Nude Foundation

Tuesday, 19 January 2016

My first ever First Impressions video. You all know that I love my L'Oreal Infallible Foundation but I think that it is a smiiiiiiiidge off. I feel like I notice a line of disembarkation on my neck and it makes me feel conscious about it. I wanted to try the lightening drops from The Body Shop but they're terminally out of stock. But this foundation was recommended to me as a shade match - Chelsea Porcelain 010. When I ran out of my L'Oreal Infallible, I decided to give it a whirl.

Have you tried this foundation? What are your thoughts?

Beauty Things That I Suck At

Monday, 18 January 2016

I am by no means a beauty expert. Far from it. Thanks to the power of editing it only appears that I'm good a certain thing when it comes to applying my makeup. But I assure you, there are aspects that I suck at.

  • I am useless at applying any kind of lip product. I cannot line my lips to save my life. I either overline or mess up the inner corners of my lips. I'm useless at the inner corners.
  • I suck at applying nail varnish. It is never ever neat. Ever.
  • I fake tanned once. No me gustó. I only did it for a Strictly Come Dancing style fundraiser.
  • I cannot fill in my eyebrows worth a damn. They remain invisible in the end.
  • When I apply loose powder to set my liquid makeup, there is always a powder cloud. Poof!
  • I'm probably using the wrong primer for my skin type but it stops my foundation from sitting on dry patches. Nothin' wrong with dat.
  • I will usually mess up applying mascara by either hitting my brow bone or my under eye area. I've even hit myself in the eye.
  • I suck at curling my eyelashes. I can't get the right angle with the curlers to fit my lashes. I feel really stupid about this one, haha.
  • I'm useless with skincare. I know, I know. It's awful but I know next to nothing about skincare despite watching countless videos about it. It bores me. I'm sorry, skin. I'll get my crap together, I promise.
Are there any aspects of your beauty regime that you fail to be on par at?

TRIBUTE || David Bowie "Jareth" [Labyrinth] Inspired Makeup

Friday, 15 January 2016

I remember the first time that I watched Labyrinth as a child. I fell absolutely in love with it. I loved everything about it. The characters. The costumes. The puppets. The premise. The songs. Magic Dance is still one of my favourite songs. Jareth, the Goblin King, is still one of my favourite characters. He's iconic for my generation. I loved everything about him. His style. His look. His hair. His sultry voice. Everything.

Once upon a time, there was a beautiful young girl whose stepmother always made her stay home with the baby. And the baby was a spoiled child, and wanted everything to himself, and the young girl was practically a slave. But what no one knew is that the king of the goblins had fallen in love with the the girl, and he had given her certain powers. So one night, when the baby had be particularly cruel to her, she called on the goblins for help!

When I heard that David Bowie passed away on Monday, I was in utter shock. I couldn't believe it - the Goblin King was gone. I'm probably still a little bit in denial as I type this.

I wanted to do something in tribute to one of the most influential people in my life - doing a makeup look inspired by him seemed appropriate. I'm not doing this to in any way garner more views for my blog or YouTube channel or gain subscribers. That is not what I'm doing. This is me, Kazzie, paying tribute to one of the most pivotal characters in my life.

Something that made filming this really special was the moment when I filmed the makeup. I was listening to one of my playlists on Spotify on shuffle as I was filming. As I placed the final lip colour on and moved to the highlighter, Magic Dance started to play. It was beyond weird and spooky. It felt like a sign.  A sign that my look was good, like it was accepted....like it was approved....I don't know but it was such an extraordinary moment. I could't have planned it if I wanted to.

If you watch the video, thank you. If you don't want to watch it, I understand. This is my way of paying tribute to a legend.

You remind me of the babe. [What babe?]
The babe with the power. [What power?]
The power of voodoo. [Who do?]
You do.[Do what?]
Remind me of the babe.

Collection #BlushAndGlow Palette

Wednesday, 13 January 2016

If you've been reading my blog for a while you will know that I love blush. Love, love, love blush. But I don't have many from the drugstore. So when Collection came out with this handy dandy little palette that has two blushes, a bronzer/contour and a highlight, I knew I had to investigate.

Makeup Geek Unboxing

Tuesday, 12 January 2016

I recently made a cheeky (not so) little purchase from Beauty Bay last week as a bit of a treat to myself. I was beyond excited when Beauty Bay announced that they would be stocking Makeup Geek products and I decided that my pay day would be D-Day, or should I say MUG-Day. I placed an order after changing my shopping cart 50 times and I decided to do an unboxing video on my YouTube channel.

The Fangirl Bucket List || City Edition

Monday, 11 January 2016

Kazzie, what in the world is a fangirl bucket list? And how come it can have a city edition? Let me tell you exactly what it means. This idea actually came to me one morning at work when I was doing my usual daydreaming and humming along to the music through my earphones. [It was a Sunday and we were closed for my entire shift. Ssssh]. A lot of my favourite shows are filmed in or are set in certain locations and my favourite actor[esse]s are from particular places. Naturally, I would love to visit those places to get a feel for the place that *insert show* is filmed/set in. Then it hit me, Why not catalogue these locations and share them with you?

TUTORIAL || Vidia [Pixie Hollow] Inspired Makeup Look

Friday, 8 January 2016

For my first Fandom Friday tutorial of 2016, I really struggled with deciding on what to do. I had a million ideas but couldn't settle on one. Most of them were passed over because I didn't think that I had the ability to do them justice. I finally decided to do a makeup look inspired by Vidia from the Pixie Hollow movies.

I don't think I've done this justice.

Makeup was not cooperating with me when I filmed this. Nothing seemed to work and I stabbed myself in the eye twice with the mascara wand. Anyway, I muddled through and I actually quite like this look after stepping back from it.

GET READY WITH ME || New Year's Eve Blue Smokey Eyes

Thursday, 7 January 2016

I was in Belfast on New Year's Eve. Naturally, a trip into Boots was on the agenda. I wasn't looking for anything in particular except for cotton rounds for taking off my makeup. But the makeup was calling and one particular eyeshadow screamed 'BUY ME' at me. L'Oreal's Color Riche single eyeshadow in 'French Riviera'. I fell head over heels for it. In that instant, I rearranged everything that I wanted to do with my makeup for that night just so I could use this shadow. It really was perfect for New Year's Eve.

It is just stunning and it is even more mesmorising when used wet. I filmed it again yesterday using the same products (minus the false lashes).

Open Hearts by Jane Seymour

Wednesday, 6 January 2016

I have never been more excited to blog about something in my entire blogging life (which is all of 18 months). I wanted this to be the very first post of 2016 but decided to let my 2015 In Retrospect take that honour. Nevertheless, I couldn't wait to write about Santa so graciously gave me at Christmas; Open Hearts by Jane Seymour jewellery. My little fangirl heart nearly went into overload when I unwrapped these and held them in my hands.

2015 || In Retrospect

Monday, 4 January 2016

2015 has closed and with that comes a post where I reflect back on the year that I had. It had it's ups and downs just like every year [the ending of my four year relationship was one of the downs]. It certainly was a memorable year though. I traveled, I fangirled and I loved. In this post I share my favourite things from the year ranging from my favourite people, films, beauty items and music. Some things aren't new to 2015 but are new to me.
